Maitron FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About the LimeSafe System
In the Maitron FAQ, we answer the most important questions about limescale conversion, installation, maintenance, drinking water quality and the difference compared to traditional water softeners.
1. General Information About Maitron LimeSafe
Maitron changes dissolved limescale in the water into fine crystals that no longer adhere stubbornly to surfaces. This helps protect pipes, water heaters, fixtures, appliances and shower surfaces from hard limescale buildup – without salt, electricity or chemicals.
No. Maitron does not remove minerals from the water. The calcium and minerals remain in the drinking water, but the limescale is changed into a form that is far less likely to stick to surfaces.
No. Since Maitron does not add salt, chemicals or other substances to the water, the natural taste and composition of the drinking water remain unchanged.
Yes. The minerals remain in the water. Maitron does not produce softened or chemically treated water. The drinking water keeps its natural mineral content.
2. Advantages Compared to Water Softeners
A traditional water softener usually removes calcium and magnesium from the water and replaces them with sodium. Maitron works differently: it does not remove minerals and does not add salt. Instead, it changes the structure of limescale so it loses its ability to adhere stubbornly to surfaces.
Maitron works without salt, without chemicals, without electricity and without regular maintenance. It helps reduce hard limescale buildup while keeping the natural mineral composition of the water.
No. Maitron does not use salt. There is no salt tank, no regeneration cycle and no need to refill anything.
There are no ongoing costs for salt, cartridges, electricity or regular servicing. Once installed, the system works maintenance-free.
3. Effectiveness & Application
Maitron is designed to reduce hard limescale buildup by changing the structure of limescale in the water. The result is that limescale no longer adheres stubbornly to surfaces and can usually be wiped away more easily.
Maitron can be used in single-family homes, multi-family buildings, commercial properties and larger installations. The right unit size depends mainly on the building size and water demand.
In new installations, the effect is usually noticeable soon after installation. In older plumbing systems with existing deposits, the reduction of old limescale layers can take several weeks or months, depending on the condition of the system and water consumption.
4. Installation & Operation
Maitron is installed in the main water line by a qualified installer. It is usually installed after the water meter, pressure reducer and fine filter.
Yes. Maitron can usually be integrated into existing plumbing systems. It is suitable for both new construction and retrofit projects.
No. Maitron works without electricity. It does not need a power connection, control unit or electronic operation.
The required space depends on the unit size. Smaller units are suitable for single-family homes, while larger units are used for multi-family buildings and commercial applications. Your installer can help determine the correct size and installation space.
5. Maintenance & Service Life
No. Maitron is maintenance-free. There are no cartridges to replace, no salt to refill and no regular regeneration process.
Maitron is designed for long-term operation. Since there are no consumables, no electricity and no moving parts in regular operation, the system is built for a long service life.
No. Maitron LimeSafe does not require electricity and works without an electrical connection.
No regular wear parts are required for the Maitron unit itself. The system works without cartridges, filters or replaceable treatment media.
